I haven't thought too much about that. But I can see where there'd be a lack of passion because of a lack of events. High school students like passion and emotion in big events which is why i think concerts are so fun. To a high schooler, its usually an event that stirs up passion which makes it a lot harder to get a student to be interested than the first. I also think the 2nd model often focuses too little on the relationship with God and doesn't encourage spending time in prayer as much as the first. just some thoughts.

p.s. i think i saw you at borders the other night...i drove right by and you were with a bunch of kids.

Hey, this has nothing to do with your post. But, is that La Tienda II restaurant that you took me to in East Moline still open? I have been craving some good Mexican (The Brits obviously don't have it), and that place keeps popping up in my brain.

hmm...i guess day-to-day ministry would be doing small things that show the beauty of the kingdom to the world around you. whether that be buying somebody lunch or not holding a grudge or praying for your enemies or talking to the kid that everyone makes fun of, or eating dinner together, or just embracing the joy that comes because of rescue.

i dunno. if that's day to day ministry, then how do you put that into an hour and a half gathering. Which brings me to question the purpose of a gathering anyways. I think the purpose of the gathering should be coorporate worship with other people who are living out this kind of ministry everyday in their lives and thus the group is growing weekly because people have seen the wonder of God in these people's lives and come to find out what this is all about. So then the purpose of the gathering is as a communal connection point/time of worship. If that's the point of the gathering, then what should that worship look like?

the first model would say: big, powerful, musical, and sermoncentric.

the second would say: let's bring in elements that the whole group can participate in together since we are more focused on community. let's change it up every week. let's worship in ways that we can carry on with us once we leave this place that can impact the way we relate to the world. Let's focus in on the kingdom together here...now...and then go from here changed and living differently. A much smoother transition from the gathering to real life than the first model.

I don't quite know what "my model" would look like. I guess what I said at the beginning of this "paper" haha. About small things that reveal the beauty of God to the world around you.
